National nonprofit organization Welcoming America announced Carla Gibson, Vice President of Programs, as one of four new board members to the organization.

Gibson, who joined REACH in 2006, is responsible for all program functions at the REACH Foundation, including developing strategic community investments to advance health equity in the foundation’s six-county service area. One key area of REACH investment over the past few years is strengthening access to health, mental and behavioral health, and oral health care for immigrants and refugees. Gibson has helped to launch new learning networks, equity initiatives and other work aimed at improving health care and access to human services for immigrant and refugee members in our region.

REACH worked with Welcoming America to lead a two-year community planning process starting in 2018 that resulted in development of a Welcoming KC region plan. That effort has spawned community education, programs and other resources to ensure newcomers are welcomed and served.

“I’m excited to join this group of national leaders working on issues that impact newcomers’ experiences in our country, states, counties and communities,” said Carla Gibson. “Welcoming America provides valuable services and effective strategies to ensure a welcoming experience for all. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be involved in their work and gain insights as to how to make these efforts impactful for all.”
