MERRIAM, KANSAS – Fourteen programs providing health care services, care coordination and health navigation were awarded REACH Healthcare Foundation program grants totaling $1,249,954. The grants will support programs and activities in 2015.

The funded projects included staffing for the Cass County Dental Clinic, a safety net dental clinic located in Belton, Missouri; bilingual therapy and mental health care in Kansas City, Kansas, schools; a program to coordinate health services for youth and adults who are homeless or transitioning to permanent housing; and trauma-focused behavioral health care for youth in residential and day treatment programs.

“The programs we selected focused on physical health, mental health, oral health and the care coordination needs of highly vulnerable people living in our metropolitan area,” said William Moore, Vice President of Program and Evaluation. “These organizations highlighted specific health disparities in our service area and presented thoughtful strategies for achieving positive results.”

For 2015, the foundation identified areas of particular interest. These included proposals to expand access to health care by adding service hours, satellite locations or other options; building a culturally diverse health care workforce; and programs that integrate medical care with mental health or oral health services. Moore said the organizations receiving funding identified opportunities to address these targets.
