Carla Gibson is a Senior Program Officer at the foundation, responsible for program development and grants administration in the foundation’s priority outcome areas of Enroll All Eligible, Close the Coverage Gap, and Strong Safety Net, as well as for special projects. Gibson joined REACH in 2006 and has guided the foundation’s health equity investments. Prior to joining REACH, she directed community health programming at Kansas City CARE Clinic, and served as a Ryan White case manager at Swope Health Services. Gibson also worked for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as a health program manager for the northwest region.

Gibson serves as co-chair of the Health Equity Committee for Region VII Health Equity Council (RHEC), co-chair of the Greater Kansas City Chamber Behavioral Health Action Team (Healthy KC) and is a member of the board of directors of the Lee’s Summit Arts Council. Additionally, Gibson chairs the Behavioral Health Funder’s Network Steering Committee for Grantmakers in Health, a national nonprofit educational organization dedicated to helping foundations and corporate giving programs improve the health of all people. Previously, Gibson served as chair for the National Office of Minority Health Heartland RHEC. She also chaired the RHEC’s Affordable Care Act Committee, and helped to plan several regional conferences on health disparities.

Gibson was honored as an outstanding social justice leader by Communities Creating Opportunity and received the 2016 Spirit Award for her work related to equity. In 2014, she was named a “Health Hero” by the Black Health Care Coalition of Greater Kansas City for her work in addressing access to care, advocacy and health promotion in the African American community, and, in 2012, Gibson received the Cross-Cultural Leadership Award from the Institute for International Medicine.

She and her husband Robert Gibson live in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
