Karen Gilpin has worked in nursing and nursing education for more than 30 years. She was Director of Nursing of the Neosho County Community College Mary Grimes School Nursing for nearly seven years, leading the school’s three campuses in Chanute, Ottawa and Independence. From 1977-1989, Gilpin held the positions of Director of Nursing, Assistant Director and Staff Nurse at Allen County Hospital. Gilpin currently is a nursing consultant.
Gilpin served on the Kansas State Board of Nursing from 1998-2006 and was recognized by the National Council State Boards of Nursing for Outstanding Leadership. She is on the Board of THRIVE Allen County, and the Allen County Hospital, She is active in numerous other community activities and professional organizations.
