Capacity Grants

Grants in this category are designed to build the organization’s capacity to carry out their mission. Projects must be completed in a six-month timeframe.

As of March 15, 2012, the Foundation is placing a hold on new requests for capacity grants, advocacy grants and CEO discretionary grants due to a large number of requests already under review. New requests may be considered in the fall should any discretionary funding remain. If you have a proposal in process, please contact a program officer to determine if your application will be considered at this time.

Capacity grants help organizations build their capacity to carry out their mission and core services. Grants may be used to strengthen financial, governance and other business capabilities, including staff or board development, strategic planning, marketing/communication, evaluation, data management and other similar efforts.

Grants are designed to provide short-term assistance. Projects must be completed within a six-month timeframe.

Typical expenses include consultant fees, technology, training and equipment. Capacity grants cannot be used to cover general business expenses, such as staff salaries, benefits or indirect expenses.

Availability: Reviewed year-round.

Grant Term: 6 months

Maximum Award: $30,000

Contact a Foundation Program Officer at 913-432-4196 before submitting a proposal.
